ARE program:
MiCRA was established in 2007 using funding provided by Enterprise Ireland under the Applied Research Enhancement (ARE) Program. This programme was established to generate research within the Institutes of Technology that could be commercialised by a diverse range of Industries within Ireland. It is expected that this research is Industry led through close collaboration with the Institutes.
In total 11 institutes of technology were awarded ARE funding which resulted in 17 centres of excellence. Each centre has its own portfolio of competencies, skills and expertise but they can be broadly divided into 3 technology themes. These are:
- ICT and Software
- Bio-life Sciences and Pharmaceutical
- Bio-Medical devices & Materials
MiCRA is associated with the Bio-Medical devices and Material cluster along with the following centres
